Bio

Sammy Buck’s shows have been performed on five continents (so if you’re in South America or Antarctica, give a call). He is an award-winning writer, story consultant and creator of Structure! The Musical: Everything You Need to Know About Musicals You Can Learn From Star Wars. He and composer Daniel S. Acquisto have written seven shows together, most notably Like You Like It, which is published and licensed by Playscripts/Broadway Licensing, with an all-star Studio Cast RADcording from Broadway Records.  Their show StinkyKids® The Musical (Vital Theatre) won an Off Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Show and is licensed by Theatrical Rights Worldwide, with the cast album available on iTunes. Their songs for …And Then I Wrote A Song About It (Luna Stage, Diversionary) earned them a MAC Dottie Burman Award.

As bookwriter/co-lyricist of Small Town Story (NY Theatre Barn Commission) with composer/lyricist Brandon James Gwinn, he was awarded a NAMT Writers Residency Grant and was a finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award, with a world-premiere production at American Theatre Group . Other credits include The Doll Maker’s Gift (Rose Theater), Leonard Bernstein’s Cast Party (Roundabout), the movies Red Hook (Phase 4 Films) and Fade To White (Free Range Humans), a circus, the one-actor play Barry The Hatchet (All Out Arts) and two of NYMF’s dance shows (Common Grounds and Andy Warhol Was Right ).  A Dramatists Guild Fellow, he received his BFA in Filmic Writing from USC. An Emmy® winner for his work with TV Land Digital, he has mentored for the Young Playwrights Festival in Santa Barbara. He is a member of BMI and The Dramatists Guild, Inc.

And while Sammy is a banjo enthusiast, he is not the Sammy Buck of legend in the Pineylore story that formed the basis of The Charlie Daniels Band’s hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
